Statement on Pride 2025

Someone holds up a round placard in Pride flag colours with a superimposed white Lib Dem bird-of-liberty and the hashtag #LoveIsLove

While we understand Pride organisers' frustrations with Labour and the Conservatives' swithering on LGBT+ and especially trans+ rights of late, we are sickened to our core to be lumped together with them in a blanket suspension on political parties attending major Prides this year.  Liberal Democrats, and Liberals before us, have been at the forefront of campaigning for LGBT+ rights from the Wolfenden Report onwards, and we are proud to be the most progressive GB-wide party to this day.

We firmly believe that Pride is a protest and that all organisations should have to earn their presence - we also think LGBT+ Lib Dems have more than done this over the last few years.  We look forward to a constructive dialogue with Pride organisers so we can come back bigger and better, while those parties who pander to bigotry and hatred can be left in the past where they belong.

- The Executive Committee,
LGBT+ Liberal Democrats
