LGBT+ Liberal Democrats prepare for Manchester Summer Conference

This Saturday, LGBT+ activists from the Liberal Democrats will be getting together in Manchester for the annual Summer Conference. The organisation's twice-yearly conferences set the campaigning and policy agenda for the organisation, and form an important part of its governence along with the Annual General Meeting.
The agenda for the meeting includes
- helping Liberal Democrat local parties around Britain engage with LGBT+ communities, particularly at Pride
- trans rights, Gender Recognition Act reforms and media attacks
- LGBT+ phobia in football
- Immigration, asylum and LGBT+ rights
Jennie Rigg, chair of LGBT+ Liberal Democrats, said "Every day, around the world, we see victories and defeats in the battle for LGBT+ equality. We celebrate the victories, such as progress on mixed-sex civil partnerships in the UK and movement towards same-sex marriage in the Czech Republic; we condemn the losses whether it's the missed opportunity for gender-neutral UK passports, or the creeping promotion of anti-trans falsehoods in the media.
"The Liberal Democrats have always been at the forefront of the struggle for LGBT+ equality, and LGBT+ Liberal Democrats exists to keep representing the LGBT+ community to the party and vice-versa. Our conferences are great ways for our members to be proactively involved in our activities, and are intended to maintain our agenda for policy and campaigning."
The meeting is open to all members of the organisation; please RSVP via email to secretary@plusld.org.uk to attend
