On Wednesday, LGBT+ Liberal Democrats (Plus) joined activists, politicians and supporters outside Downing Street for the Reform the Gender Recognition Act and Stop Section 35 demonstration.

Joined by Lib Dems MPs, Peers and supporters, we stood united to protest the United Kingdom Government's callous attack on trans rights and Scottish Parliament's Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill.

Addressing the crowd, Plus Chair Charley Hasted shared messages of support from MPs Wendy Chamberlain (MP for North East Fife, and Chief Whip and Spokesperson for Work & Pensions) and Wera Hobhouse (MP for Bath, and Spokesperson for Energy & Climate Change and Transport, Shadow Leader of the House); and reminded us that "none of us should give up until this [government] are out. They don't represent us. They don't care about us."

The overwhelming support and mobilisation we have seen over the past week is incredible. Like us, we hope many will continue to stand up for trans people and against the Government's continued attempts to strip LGBTQ+ people of their basic human rights and freedoms.

We would like to thank MPs, Peers, Councillors, members and supporters who were able to join us (including Daisy Cooper, MP for St Albans, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats; Alistair Carmichael, MP for Orkney and Shetland; Sarah Green, MP for Chesham & Amersham; Christine Jardine, MP for Edinburgh West and Spokesperson for Women & Equalities and Scotland; and Baroness Elizabeth Barker, Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords) and those unable to attend for their continued support in the fight against prejudice, hate, and all those who disseminate and instigate it.
