At Harrogate federal conference, we strengthened the Lib Dem commitment to trans rights when we passed the motion “Free To Be Who You Are.” It was a highly successful example of LGBT+ Lib Dems working across the party. But many months on, its principles are not always held to, whether by our elected representatives or our internal decision makers.
Getting strong LGBT+ policy passed is crucial. But it’s nowhere near enough. 
As well as drafting policy for conferences and council groups, Artie will:
Set up a Policy Working Group drawing on expertise across our membership.
Obtain a consensus among the Exec on crucial policy and strategy questions.
Coordinate focused, coherent lobbying of our spokespeople and leadership.
Artie is an experienced trans rights activist that has served on the LGBT+ Lib Dem Executive since being co-opted this year. They have often seen those fighting for human rights fail to have an impact when it’s been everyone for themself. But they have also seen the success we can have can have when policy, lobbying, and messaging work together.
Trans people are on the front line of the far right’s war on our freedom. LGBT+ Lib Dems must be as effective as possible in fighting for their rights, and indeed the rights of all queer people. With Artie as policy officer, you can be sure of a secure foundation for that fight.
