2016 Executive

The Officers and Executive of LGBT+ are responsible for the running of the organisation. They are elected in Autumn each year, and take up their duties on the 1st January.

Adrian Hyryllainen-Trett

Chair: Adrian Hyyrylainen-Trett

Originally from Norwich, in Norfolk, Adrian moved to London in 2001 and joined Lib Dems in 2006. As Former Chair from 2010-2013, he married his husband, Juha on the first anniversary of the Same-Sex Marriage Act, and also in 2015, became the 1st ever Openly HIV+ parliamentary candidate to stand at a UK General Election.

Adrian is also GLA List Candidate for 2016 London Assembly elections, Vice Chair of LDEG, Secretary of Vauxhall Local Party and Lambeth Lib Dems Equalities Spokesperson.

Dave is also Secretary of Manchester Gorton Liberal Democrats. He works in IT, and is particularly interested in issues of censorship of LGBT+ resources on the Internet.

Zoe O'Connell

A campaigner for Trans equality for many years, Zoe is a City Councillor in Cambridge, Vice-Chair of the Liberal Democrats' Federal Conference Committee and co-author of the Liberal Democrats Equalities policy paper.

Richard Flowers

Originally from the North West, Richard moved to London in the 1990s and now lives on the Isle of Dogs. In 2014, thanks to the work of LGBT+ and Lib Dem minister Lynne Featherstone Richard was able to marry his husband Alex Wilcock.

Richard is also currently chair of Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrats.

Rodney Berman

Rodney Berman OBE

Born in Glasgow, where he also studied at the University of Glasgow, Rodney is a former leader of Cardiff City Council. He was awarded an OBE in 2013 for services to local government and the community in Cardiff.

Sarah Brown

Sarah E Brown (Cambridge)

A former Executive Councillor on Cambridge City Council, Sarah was for many years the only openly transgender elected politician in the UK. She has appeared on the Independent On Sunday Rainbow List (formerly known as the Pink List) since 2011.

She is currently a trustee of Cambridgeshire LGBT charities Encompass Networkand SexYOUality.

LGBT+ Liberal Democrats

Hywel Davies

Hywel is a former candidate for the National Assembly for Wales, an Organiser for Bristol North. Hywel has been living with HIV since 2009. In June 2011 he suffered a seizure due to cancer, temporarily paralysing the right side of his body. Over the course of the following year he overcame the cancer thanks to a course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, learning to walk and write once more.

Although mobility impaired, Hywel in 2015 did a fire walk for the National AIDS Trust on Guy Fawkes Night, and took the Live HIV Neutral Pledge on the top of the O2 Arena in Greenwich. He calls them 'Disabled Extreme Sports'

Stephen is a three time Westminster candidate. In 2015 he celebrated ten years as a political blogger and has experience campaigning on LGBT issues in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

He is an experienced conference speaker including moving the Transgender elements of the Scottish Liberal Democrat equal marriage motion.

Teena Lashmore

Teena lives in Hackney and campaigns for social housing, greener technologies, transport (cycling & walking), modernising the finance and banking industries and is especially active in anti-racism campaigns. She is an effective Advocate for LGBT+, having helped to set up Rainbow Hamlets and Redbridge LGBT+ community engagement groups in London.

A former London Assembly candidate, Richard is legal counsel for the British Heart Fondation.

Sarah Noble

Sarah Noble

Living in God's Own County of Yorkshire, Sarah is a policy geek with a specialist subject of trans rights. As well as LGBT+ Lib Dems, she currently sits on the party's Sex Work Policy Working Group and the NUS LGBT+ Committee. When she's not doing equality activism, she can be often be found talking about trains, wrestling, or curry.

Jennie Rigg

Jennie Rigg

Jennie is chair of Calderdale Liberal Democrats and sits on the Yorkshire regional candidates committee. She works for a small internet start-up and lives in Brighouse with her daughter, her dogs, and her boyfriends. She is particularly interested in gin.
