Celebration Not Complacency as UK tops ILGA survey for IDAHOBIT

ILGA-Europe put the UK at the top for LGBT equality in Europe
On the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, LGBT+ Lib Dems have welcomed a report citing the UK as the best country in Europe for equality and human rights for LGBTI people.
Adrian Trett, Chair of LGBT+ Lib Dems and Vice-Chair of the Liberal Democrat European Group (LDEG), welcomed the report:
"The Liberal Democrats have always stood for equality and human rights, and leading in Europe. On a day where we stand against discrimination and hatred, we welcome this report but recognise it shows we have a long way to go as a country.
"The Lib Dems in Government are leading on delivering same-sex marriage, and have made fresh commitments to supporting asylum seekers fleeing persecution for their sexuality and gender identity. We will make sure that equality issues are kept at the heart of Governent. And Lib Dem MEPs are leading in Europe on delivering equality and securing the rights of British LGBT+ people abroad."
The report is published by the European region of ILGA, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association and covers not only legal rights but case law and prosecutions, incidents of hate speech and violence. It can be downloaded here.
