September 23rd is Bi Visibility Day, also known as International Celebrate Bisexuality Day. Since 1999, bisexual people and groups around the world have held events to highlight bisexuality and combat biphobia.
Dave Page of LGBT Lib Dem body Delga, said "While we still think in terms of gay/straight, man/woman, masculine/feminine binaries, it's easy to dismiss the people for whom love is more important than gender. When we see a couple walking down the street hand-in-hand, we assume that it's a 'gay couple' or a 'straight couple', though it's not unlikely that one or both people are bi."
Eve Friday, a member of Manchester bisexual group BiPhoria, added "Discrimination against bisexuals is still common in society, even in supposed LGBT safe spaces such as Manchester Pride. We hope that though our grassroots awareness-raising events, more lesbian and gay victims of discrimination, as well as straight people, will come to understand rather than dismiss bisexuality."
