A petition to be sure you sign before the week's out
A year ago as the Lib Dems gathered in Liverpool for our spring conference the newspapers were full of the story of gay asylum seeker Mehdi Kazemi. Twelve months on, this week a petition on the government's petition site closes - calling on the Prime Minister to stop deporting gays and lesbians to countries where they may be imprisoned, tortured or executed because of their sexuality. Lib Dems including Lorely Burt MP, Lynne Featherstone MP, Tom Brake MP and Jo Swinson MP have signed already: make sure you sign it before the weekend!
It is official Lib Dem policy - as passed in a debate at our Autumn 2008 conference - that persecution, imprisonment, torture or execution on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity should be valid grounds for asylum claims.
Some 4,200 signatures have been added so far. You can add your name by following the link below.
