Lorely: thanks DELGA, good luck Jo
Lorely Burt has sent a message to DELGA members on moving on from holding the LGBT portfolio.
She said: "I would like to say a big "thank you" to everyone at DELGA for the support you have given me over the past year.
"Together we have made good progress including, ensuring that the Government did not water down the long overdue goods and services protection for LGB people; keeping homophobic bullying on the agenda; and getting Ministers to finally admit that all trans people face discrimination - not just those who legally change their gender. However, as always there remains far more to be done.
"In some ways I regret having to give up the portfolio (which I had to juggle with my small business portfolio). It is such a broad and important subject it deserves an MP to itself. I know Jo Swinson will be a passionate advocate on LGBT issues, and I will continue to support DELGA in any way I can. I wish Jo the best of luck for the future.
