The Liberal Democrats' new spokesperson in the House of Commons on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues is Jo Swinson. At 27 Jo is one of the youngest MPs in the house, winning the new seat of East Dunbartonshire in 2005. She was appointed Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland after Ming Campbell's election as party leader last year, and now takes on the Women and Equality portfolio which includes LGBT rights.
Jo Swinson said, ""I am looking forward to the fresh challenges that my new equalities role will present. I will be seeking to work closely with DELGA as we look to tackle a whole range of LGBT issues."
DELGA Chair Jen Yockney commented, "Jo has been a great champion of equality through the party's Gender Balance Task Force over the last few years, and I look forward to working with her on LGBT matters in her new role."
