A glaring omission from the equality law
DELGA is backing a petition calling on the Prime Minister to prohibit discrimination in the provision of goods, services and facilities, including health care,on the grounds of transsexual or transgender status.
The petition, on the 10 Downing Street website's section for petitions from the general public, has been started by widely respected trans activist Stephen Whittle on behalf of the trans equality group Press For Change. The new legislation on discrimination in provision of goods and services which comes into force in April covers lesbian, gay and bisexual people but does not cover transgender people.
