Tory MP Philip Davies has lashed out at new guidelines to tackle homophobic bullying and hate crime both in schools and in wider society. He told the Sun today that, "It's barmy, politically correct nonsense to brainwash kids."
His remarks were prompted by the new Home Office publication "Tackling Homophobic Hate Crime" which highlights good practice from around England and Wales, and highlights ways for crime reduction agencies, including the police, to do more to crackdown on crime motivated by prejudice or hate.
DELGA Chair Jen Yockney said, "Philip Davies' reaction to the idea that LGBT people should not be bullied and attacked is a timely reminder of the Tory record on gay rights. While David Cameron may have started to talk equality, his party is still made up of the people who brought in Section 28 and blocked measure after measure toward equality - whether on the age of consent, parenting, partnership rights, or tackling discrimination in employment."
