DELGA appoints new Chair

November 12, 2006 1:02 PM

DELGA's national executive has selected prominent bisexual activist Jen Yockney as the new Acting Chair of the organisation to serve until the end of the year.

Jen replaces Kelvin Meyrick, who has been Chair since January 2006 but has stepped down early for personal reasons. Kelvin commented, "Jen has been a key member on the national executive of DELGA this year and was part of the team that ran our high-profile 2001 General Election campaign. It's great to know the organisation will be in such good hands."

Jen commented, "Thanks to Kelvin for all his hard work as Chair over the past months; in particular our presence at Brighton conference was one of the best DELGA has had in recent years with many LGBT-related fringe meetings and a high-profile stall in the exhibition area."

"As Chair-elect of DELGA, due to become Chair in January, I was already looking forward to helping the organisation grow in strength and profile both inside the Liberal Democrats and in the LGBT community. With many of the totemic equality battles won - on section 28 or partnership recognition for example - the times ahead will be very interesting for the LGBT movement. We can be sure that DELGA and the Liberal Democrats will remain at the forefront."
