Liberal Democrats launch LGBT Manifesto for 2010 General Election

The Lib Dems have published a 2010 LGBT Manifesto
The Liberal Democrats have today launched their LGBT manifesto for the upcoming General Election. The manifesto highlights six key LGBT priorities for the Lib Dems:
• Tackling homophobic bullying in schools
• Getting tough on homophobic hate crime
• Ending deportations of LGBT refugees to countries where they face persecution
• Pressing other countries to recognise civil partnerships
• Broadening the transgender definition
• Increasing LGBT representation in Parliament
Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg, launching the General Election Manifestos this morning, said "The basic idea that animates this manifesto is something I have always believed. I believe every single person is extraordinary. The tragedy is that we have a society where too many people never get to fulfil that extraordinary potential.
"My view - the liberal view - is that government's job is to help them to do it. Not to tell people how to live their lives. But to make their choices possible, to release their potential, no matter who they are."
The LGBT manifesto builds on Lynne Featherstone's proposals to extend legal protections in the Equality Act to all trans people regardless of surgical status or intention, which was rejected by Labour. It also mentions DELGA's project Out To Win offering support for LGBT candidates at all levels of the Liberal Democrats.
