The motion follows debate at the United Nations General Assembly
With the majority of Lib Dem MPs signed up already, it's time to check - has your MP signed EDM 360? Evan Harris, President of DELGA, tabled this Early Day Motion in Parliament pressing the government to continue international work tackling discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. This followed a debate at the General Assembly of the United Nations. Evan, who is the Lib Dem MP for Oxford West & Abingdon, put forward the motion on December 17th and it has drawn cross-party support including more than half the Lib Dem parliamentary party.
DELGA Chair Jen Yockney says: "I urge DELGA members and supporters everywhere to press their local MP - regardless of party colour - to support Evan's early day motion."
EDM 360 reads: "That this House notes the historical declaration against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, presented to the General Assembly of the United Nations in December 2008; further notes that this declaration was submitted by the French government in consultation with the International Day against Homophobia (IDAHO); and urges the British Government to continue to work with other governments and non-governmental organisations to ensure that there is enough support in the UN for a resolution to be passed to decriminalise homosexuality and to end gender identity discrimination around the world."
