DELGA members and supporters may be interested in a public protest next week over the government's Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill 2008. The bill includes proposals to outlaw swathes of internet pornography, which it is anticipated will disproportionately affect those downloading same-sex erotica, and has also raised concerns amongst many disabled people.
The circular for the event reads:
"Disabled People Challenging the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill 2008
Everybody needs a sexual outlet
Disabled People have sexual rights
Some of us need sex workers and extreme pornography - don't ban us!
Tuesday 26th February
2.30-4.30pm
Westminster Bridge, South Side, London SW1
Bring placards and chains, dress warm
Demo organised by the Outsiders Trust with police permission, under the
Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005"
DELGA Chair Jen Yockney said, "This bill is not just of concern to disabled people. In DELGA's view, lesbian, gay and bisexual people are more likely to be affected by the proposals on pornography than heterosexuals, due to judgements on what is offensive being made by people who have grown up in a culture of social homophobia."
