DELGAs New Committee for 2005

January 1, 2005 3:15 AM

Following it's AGM, DELGA is pleased to announce the new committee for 2005. Southwark councillor and Camberwell and Peckham PPC, Richard Porter, has been elected as Chair with Terry Woolley As Vice Chair. Dartford Parish councillor Andrew Reeves is the new secretary and Neville Reed remains treasurer. They are joined by Stephanie Dearden (PPC Tooting), Gemma Charlton, Kelvin Meyrick, Cllr David Hubber and Steve Sollitt (PPC Southampton Test).

Commenting on the new committee, chair Richard Porter said;

"I am delighted that we have an enthusiastic committee who are determined to raise the profile of DELGA both within and outside the party. At our first committee meeting we agreed a programme for action leading up to the general election, including support for 'out' PPC's, designing a general election campaign targeted at the LGBT community and launching a new website. Opinion polls in the pink press show that the Liberal Democrats are the party of preference for the LGBT community. The community feels let down by the Labour party who have let us down in so many areas, and failed to provide the LGBT community with so many fundamental, basic human rights. Our general election campaign will be based around the party's Freedom, Fairness, Trust theme and will be highlighting the failures of the Labour government, as well as reminding people about the dangers of voting Tory for the LGBT community."
